THE GRAPHIC ART Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

THE GRAPHIC ART - Essay Example Riggle (2012: 255) portrays road craftsmanship as â€Å"artworks whose utilization of the road is basic to their meanings.† In this, Riggle infers that road workmanship is important and material just in avenues where they show their hugeness to a few passers-by. There are a few road expressions that are accessible in different holographs in today’s galleries and other photograph and pictures sources, for example, chronicles. This paper will concisely confirm or back up Riggle’s depiction of road craftsmanship utilizing two famous and early drawing specialists; England based spray painting craftsman, Banksy and South African craftsman, Robin Rhode. The two are prestigious road craftsmen whose craftsmanships have been posted on different sites. The article will basically deal with the job or the need of road works of art, just as their effects on the quick society. In any case, Banksy completed a few fine arts which are for the most part considered road workmanship with concealed implications that are important to show certain exercises to the general public. Since he was additionally a painter, political extremist and movie chief, he thought of appealing road workmanship spray painting and inalienable dim diversion that was magnificently done in unmistakable and exceptional intrinsic stenciling strategy. The vast majority of his creative works have been highlighted in open territories, for example, dividers, lanes and extensions. Verifiably, his work was resulting from craftsman performer coordinated effort famously alluded to as Bristol underground scene. One of his road works of art was a stenciled spray painting that showed up on Thames Water tower. It was situated in Holland park indirect. The picture comprised of a kid gripping and accomplishing painting chip away at the label titled â€Å"Take this society†. Councilor Greg Smith (London and Fulham representative) considered the photograph vandalistic and made a request for its m oment expulsion from the area. The evacuation was done by the then H&F Council laborers inside three back to back days. The spray painting had a great deal of essentialness to the then European culture, as far as its political circumstances. Diagnostically, the work of art was intended to show that Europe was leveled out by a specific gathering of its pioneers who controlled each life area in the landmass starting from economy, public activities, just as the governmental issues. The possibility of the kid painting the tag is mocking really taking shape as he prompts or illuminates a few people in the general public to take control and own the general public by and by. The kid represents the basic man in Europe who is discontent with some of extremist practices displayed by the pioneers in the manner they oversee their subjects. This is regularly in accordance with Banksy’s political extremist nature or trademark. The second road work of art of Banksy is LDN6 which showed up in May 2006. Iit showed up at the rear of something that seemed as though a changeless road slow down for selling sacks and T-shirts on the Tottenham Court street, close to its intersection with the Store Street. The craftsmanship photograph didn't remain long at the slow down. It was evacuated before the finish of June with the authorization from the slow down proprietor, Sam Khan, a multi year elderly person who had no clue about Banksy and his craftsmanship (Bull, 2011: 311). Truth be told, the slow down proprietor didn't have any thought regarding the importance or rather the translation of the fine art. The photograph was then offered to somebody at an announced cost of 1000 Euros in real money. The slow down proprietor got irritated when he saw a similar photograph being sold at the very least cost of 230,000 Euros and much better costs in New York. From the image, it tends to be seen that the painter had composed, â€Å"What?† in purple shading on a dim divider with other non defined dark drawings and works. Deciphered, Branky’s fundamental explanation behind the work is to show what the indistinct dull drawings had not unmistakably uncovered

3 Common Mistakes Side Hustlers Make (and How to Avoid Them) - OppLoans

3 Common Mistakes Side Hustlers Make (and How to Avoid Them) - OppLoans 3 Common Mistakes Side Hustlers Make (And How to Avoid Them) 3 Common Mistakes Side Hustlers Make (And How to Avoid Them)You work hard for your money. Avoid these oversights to make sure your side gig or freelance job is working for you and not the other way around. When cash is tight, people often turn to side gigs and freelancing or contract work. And while this work is flexible and may help pad your bank account, it also comes with a set of rules and requirements than many people â€" especially those who are used to working as a true full- or part-time employee â€" simply don’t know. These pitfalls can actually end up costing you money. Here are some common mistakes to avoid when taking on a side hustle.Mistake No. 1: Not paying quarterly taxesBeverly Miller, a Pittsburgh-based personal finance coach, says one of the most common mistakes side hustlers make is not setting aside money â€" or not setting aside enough money â€" to pay taxes. Side hustlers often don’t realize they have to pay self-employment taxes, essentially 15%” of your income, she says, which covers Social Security and Medicare obligations. When you are an employee, your employer withholds this part of your paycheck for taxes, but when you are side hustling, you are the employer.Keep in mind this is an additional tax on top of your income tax. “Between federal, state, and local income taxes, plus the self-employment tax,” says Miller, “that can eat up 25% to 30%” of your earnings.Setting the money aside â€" the full 30% of earnings â€" is important because most people are used to having their taxes taken out of their paycheck and sent to the tax authorities by their employer. When you side hustle, that responsibility falls on you. That means you can’t spend your entire paycheck once you get it, or you could end up thousands of dollars in the hole when Uncle Sam comes knocking. You also can’t wait to shore up at the end of the year as your would if you were someone’s employee. You have to pay quarterly via the estimated quarterly tax p ayments, Miller says. That means you have to pay four different times throughout the year. (See the Freelancers Union 2019 guidelines for the payment schedule and other tips.)According to the IRS website, “Individuals, including sole proprietors, partners, and S corporation shareholders, generally have to make estimated tax payments if they expect to owe tax of $1,000 or more when their return is filed.” Yes, that includes side hustlers and freelancers. If you don’t pay estimated taxes, don’t pay enough taxes, or if you pay them late, you may be subject to fines, penalties, and interest, which can add up quick. “I’ve seen plenty of folks in debt on their taxes due to these mistakes,” Miller says.In general, in order to avoid fines, you must pay at least 90% of your owed taxes for the current year through quarterly payments, or 100% of your obligation from last year, whichever one is smaller. In order to avoid tax surprises or penalties, you may want to consider hiring a tax professional to help you. They will make sure you are following the rules and paying exactly what you owe â€" and not more â€" on time. They frequently “pay for themselves” when you consider how much they help you save.Mistake No. 2: Not staying organizedSteven Byrd, a financial coach at Hearthstone Financial Coaching, has plenty of experience helping side hustlers with their finances. In addition to coaching, he has also worked as a 2018 IRS-certified volunteer income tax preparer, running a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax site for a nonprofit called Impact America, which had many clients that did contract work on the side.“The absolute biggest way I have seen people lose money on side hustles is a lack of organization,” Byrd says. The first step he recommends for anyone who runs their own business or side gig?   Opening a separate bank account for their business. “Its pretty easy to open a business bank account as a side hustler now,” he says.A business accou nt that is separate from your personal account helps you easily keep track of money coming in and money coming out of your business. When you combine your personal and business expenses in one account, finances can often get blurry and complicated, which can become a mess when it comes time to pay your taxes. Housing all of your income in one bank account also makes it easier to spend money you should be reserving for your business, which can lead to financial problems.A crucial component of your side hustle to track? Your business expenses, which can reduce your tax burden at the end of the year. “Businesses need to track absolutely everything, and Ive seen a lot of people leave money on the table at tax time because they didnt have receipts to actually deduct their expenses,”Byrd says.Mistake No. 3: Not accounting for the cost of doing businessMike Scott, senior mortgage and loan originator at Independent Bank, reviews tax returns on a daily basis and has seen the mistakes sid e hustlers make first hand. “Probably the single biggest mistake I see is that people focus on the immediate cost and benefit, rather than taking into account the long-term costs,” he says.He uses ride-share drivers as an example. “They look at it and say that they have made $160 in 8 hours of driving, and that all it cost them was a tank of gas, since they have a vehicle that gets 40 mpg, for example,” Scott says. “What they do not take into account is that they drove 300 miles in that 8 hours to make the $160.” Those 300 miles means the car requires more maintenance, such as replacing oil, filters, windshield wipers, tires, and more. This also doesn’t account for the depreciation of the vehicle due to regular wear and tear.According to Scott, an average low-end estimate for the cost to operate a vehicle is about 40 cents a mile. This accounts for the types of maintenance costs listed above as well as long-term costs, such as replacing an engine, and some of the vehic le depreciation costs.“The driver that made $160 but put 300 miles on their car typically only subtracts the cost of gas, or about $20,” to find their profit, Scott says. “In their minds, they made $140 for 8 hours of side hustle.”However, this is far from the truth. “The reality is that it cost them about $120 to drive that 300 miles, so they made $40 for 8 hours of work. That ends up being less than minimum wage.”This is just one example. Depending on the industry in which you work, you may be required to obtain specific licenses or certifications, follow certain zoning laws, or carry specific types of business insurance. Following these laws and regulations costs a certain amount of money, and failing to follow them can end up costing you money in fines, penalties, or legal ramifications. For more information on this topic, visit the Small Business Administration website. When side hustlers run into debtNot paying taxes, disorganization, and ignoring the cost of doing business can have dire effects on your pocketbook when the whole point of the side hustle was making extra cash.People who have trouble paying monthly expenses are more prone to looking for short-term solutions, such as running up credit card debt or seeking out risky short-term loans, such as no credit check loans, bad credit loans, or other types of personal loans. These products can often do more harm than good, leading people into a cycle of debt they can’t escape. For side hustlers or gig workers who could use some extra tips, check out this article from OppLoans: “6 Financial Bummers of Going Freelance â€" And How to Make Them Not Suck.”

Video Games, The Category Of First Person Shooters Essay

â€Å"In video games, the category of â€Å"first person shooters† has been controversial with critics concerned about what that means to players who actually perform acts of violence within the games. Instead of merely watching a character perpetrate a violent act, the player is actively encouraged to participate. Gamers will often refer to their characters as â€Å"he† or even â€Å"I.† â€Å"This suggests some confusion is brought on by the intense identification players sometimes feel towards their avatars. Players typically remain attached to a single character they can control; thus they have a very strong following pattern. Game designer, Will Wright, has argued that games may have a unique ability to make players experience guilt for the choices their characters have made in the course of action. Because players are making choices, they feel some degree of responsibility† (242-243). Summery Gunshot says in his article that, video games are very violent. How Information Is Transmitted Over Time - 2059 Words

At its simplest evolution is how information is transmitted over time. Although Charles Darwin did not know about modern genetics with DNA and chromosomes, he did know that organisms resemble their parents, variation in a single species is able to be inherited, and that as there is change in population survival of the fittest will allow only the superior organism to pass its dominance on.(Eldridge 69) Darwin discovered many theories, such as natural selection and the descent of man from a common ancestors with apes, that caused a great opposition because they went against the traditional beliefs of society. Lyell proposed a new explanation for the extinct creatures that appeared in the fossil record. Rather than being evidence of a biblical catastrophe, he wrote, gradual changes in the Earth modified conditions in such a way that some unprepared creatures slowly died out. What most alarmed many of his readers was that this process would take many thousands or even millions of years. This was contrary to religious teachings that the Earth was about 6,000 years old.† (The Voyage of HMS Beagle.) His application of Lyell’s theory of the age of the earth and the meticulous details he took of the specimens he observed on the Beagle helped him prove his ideas. The fine work he showed with his observations made him a reputation in many circles back home before he even came back. (The Voyage of HMS Beagle.) In 1835, the Beagle sailed from Lima, Peru the the Galapagos, a group of islands of the coast of South America, this is where he truly made the major observations that proved the theory of evolution. The name, Galapagos, stems from the Spanish word for giant tortoises, which was one of the many species Darwin studied there. He noticed that the same species of animals differed between the island. Cyber Security Essay Example For Students

Cyber Security Essay From social networks to online banking, today the Internet has penetrated into our lives and activities. In addition to computers and laptops, we connect smart phones, tablets, refrigerators, televisions and many other portable devices to the World Wide Web. The speech about the importance of the Internet nowadays calls for knowing as much as possible about cyber security. Cyber security is a state of protection of information that the individual, society and the state need. It ensures its existence and progressive development, regardless of the presence of internal and external information threats. It is necessary to find the right ways to protect our privacy when we are online. Many people think that cybersecurity is an illusion, and it is impossible to be protected now because sites collect confidential information so subtly that we do not even know what they know. This may be so, but this uncertainty is another reason to keep your privacy and avoid the leakage of personal data on the Internet. Is there something we can do to be more secure when surfing on the Internet, besides, do not show your passwords, or do not provide a lot of personal information? Update The best protection against viruses is not anti-virus protection, but timely software update. After all, its developers are monitoring possible threats and trying to protect their products with innovations. Therefore, when the device offers updates do not ignore it. Checking sites It is strongly recommended not to enter personal information (login, password, phone number or payment card) to requests of unverified sites. Such data can be provided only to those resources that have already passed your verification, or to well-known networks (for example, Google, Facebook, your blogs on information resources, etc.). And yet always check the name of the site in the address bar of the browser (www.google.com and not www.goolge.com). You can enter information from payment cards or passwords from them only on sites with a lock  icon in the address bar. Such a connection is considered protected, and your data will not fall into the hands of unauthorized persons Phishing Recently, such type of fraud as phishing has become popular. The purpose of phishing is to gain access to the users confidential information (logins, passwords, payment card data, etc.). Phishing messages, as a rule, come to e-mail and prompt for immediate action, leaving no time for reflection. Fraudulent messages most often come from well-known brands, friends or banks and affect the emotional perception of information. They can: trigger an alarm for the state of their bank accounts; promise cash benefits with the application of minimal efforts (lottery, a message about a possible unexpected inheritance, etc.); offer financial transactions with incredibly favorable conditions; call for donations after news of natural disasters or something or appeal to your charity, offering to help sick children. Phishing can use not only the sending of letters to e-mail addresses but also online ads, search engine results, simulation of pop-up windows with system messages, SMS messages disseminating information in social networks. Password As a conclusion, do not forget about the password.   A secure password is the first guarantee that your personal information is under a secure lock. It must be complex, and it shouldn’t contain personal data. Passwords for important resources need to be changed at least once in 3 months. If you have a lot of passwords for different resources, write them down or use password-storing applications, for example, KeePass.

Convicting Raskolnikov Dostoevskys Views On Criminal Justice Essays

Convicting Raskolnikov Dostoevsky's views on Criminal Justice At the close of Crime and Punishment, Raskolinkov is convicted of Murder and sentenced to seven years in Siberian prison. Yet even before the character was conceived, Fyodor Dostoevsky had already convicted Raskolinkov in his mind (Frank, Dostoevsky 101). Crime and Punishment is the final chapter in Dostoevsky's journey toward understanding the forces that drive man to sin, suffering, and grace. Using ideas developed in Notes from Underground and episodes of his life recorded in Memoirs of the House of the Dead, Dostoevsky puts forth in Crime in Punishment a stern defense of natural law and an irrefutable volume of evidence condemning Raskolnikov's actions (Bloom, Notes 25). Central to the prosecution of any crime, murder in particular, is the idea of motive. Not only must the prosecutor prove the actus rectus or "guilty act," but also that the criminal possessed the mens rea or "guilty mind" (Schmalleger 77). The pages of Crime and Punishment and the philosophies of Dostoevsky provide ample proof of both. The first is easy; Dostoevsky forces the reader to watch firsthand as Raskolnikov "took the axe all the way out, swung it with both hands, scarcely aware of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the butt-end down on her head" (Crime and Punishment 76). There is no doubt Raskolnikov caused the death of Alena Ivanovna and, later, Lizaveta, but whether he possessed the mens rea is another matter entirely. By emphasizing the depersonalization Raskolnikov experiences during the murder, the fact that he was "scarcely aware of himself" and acted "almost mechanically" the sympathetic reader might conclude that some unknown fo! rce of nature, and not the person Raskolnikov, is to blame for the death of the usurer and her sister (Nutall 160). Dostoevsky's answer to this is contained not in Crime and Punishment, but rather in an earlier work, Notes from Underground. The entire story of the Underground Man was intended to parody the works of Nicolai G. Chernyshevsky, and thereby prove that man's actions are the result of his own free-will. The idea that man is alone responsible for his actions is central to proving that Raskolnikov is really to blame for his crime. For under the Chernyshevsky-embraced doctrine of scientific determinism, Raskolnikov cannot be held accountable for his actions. Rather, scientific determinism holds that whatever actions men take are inevitable and unalterable because they are "totally determined by the laws of nature." The Underground man was created by Dostoevsky as a man who accepts without question scientific determinism--he is a projection of Chernyshevsky's theories at their most extreme. The result is not the utopian vision of Chernyshevsky, but rather an antisocial animal that is barely recognizable as human (Frank "Nihilism" 37). The reason, according to Dostoevsky, for the problems of the Underground Man, is that he is incapable of any moral action because he lives in a world devoid of blame. At one point, the Underground man imagines forgiving someone for having slapped him in the face; but he cannot. Although the human side of the Underground man realizes that it is moral to forgive, determinism convinces him that "the man who would have slapped my face would most probably have done it in obedience to the laws of nature" (Notes from Underground 45). And so he cannot blame the other for slapping him because nature is really to blame (Frank "Nihilism" 50). But, as the Underground Man points out "even if it is the law of nature, it hurts all the same." According to Dostoevsky, blame is central to humanity. We must accept the responsibility and the consequences of our actions, since we alone determine what they are (Frank "Nihilism" 56). So, Raskolnikov cannot blame fate for his misfortune. But what can! he blame? Why, then did Raskolnikov, a "handsome young man," well educated, devoted to his family, choose to kill a defenseless old woman? Like the main character of Notes from Underground, Raskolinkov finds himself torn between reason and objective morality (Jackson 150). In an essay written six months prior to the start of the novel entitled "On Crime" Raskolnikov lays down the foundation of his rational justification for murder. "On Crime" describes a world split into two groups of

If you're taking the new SAT in 2016 or after, then this point isn't relevant - the Critical Reading and Writing sections will be scored together on a scale of 200 to 800. Other requirements include an official nomination from a U.S. Congressperson, physical fitness assessments, and, as described bythe official White House website, a demonstration of "dedication, desire to serve others, ability to accept discipline, sense of duty, and morality, and the enjoyment of challenge." Thus your grades, along with your recommendations and high school activities, are important for telling your story and demonstrating that you possess these essential qualities. Every aspect of your application takes time and effort to address well, and your SAT/ACT scores are no different. To achieve the scores you need, you should start early, put in significant preparation, and plan to take the test more than once. Since score reports take about 3 weeks to reach schools, you want to make sure you're aware of your deadlines and leave yourself enough opportunities to take the SAT/ACT several times. Before reviewing the scores you need for each academy, what are their application deadlines? Hang in there - you got this. Deadlines for Military Academies Most deadlines are in January, February, or March of senior year, but that doesn't mean you should wait until senior year to take the SAT/ACT. Typically, students take their first SAT/ACT in the fall of junior year, then again in the spring, and finally in the fall of senior year. If you're applying to a military academy, you have probably started planning and gathering your application materials earlier than many other students. Usually theacademies want you to fill out a preliminary application in junior year. If you have a sense of your plans and goals, then you can push this SAT/ACT schedule back and start preparing even earlier. Before delving into planning your test prep and schedule, these are the deadlines for each academy for the 2014-15 application cycle (and similar deadlines will likely apply for future years). Application Deadline West Point 2/28/2015 Navy 1/31/2015 Air Force 12/31/2014 Coast Guard 3/1/2015 Merchant Marine Academy 2/1/2015 Based on these deadlines, you want to have your SAT/ACT scores completed by November or Decemberof senior year, if not earlier. What scores will make you a competitive candidate? What SAT/ACT Scores Do You Need? At the very minimum, you need at least a 500 Verbal and 500 math on the SAT. In terms of the ACT, you need at least a 21 English, 19 Reading, 24 Math, and 24 Science. The average scores for all the academies fall between 540 and 620 for SAT Verbal and 630 and 710 for SAT Math. The following chart breaks down the average scores of the incoming class of 2015 for each academy. The Naval Academy has a slightly higher bar for test scores, and expectations for math are higher than for verbal across the board. SAT Verbal SAT Math ACT English ACT Reading ACT Math ACT Science West Point 627 646 29 30 29 28 Navy 600-650 630-680 25-32 26-32 Air Force 633 663 30 30 30 30 Coast Guard 620 650 * Merchant Marine Academy 632 652 * *Data not reported, but average composite ACT score for Coast Guard and Merchant Marine Academy is 28. These are strong scores, and you may be aiming for higher than average to really strengthen your application. So how can you best prepare yourself to achieve your target scores? SAT/ACT prep is a different kind of target practice. How Can You Reach Your Target Scores? Once you have a sense of what scores you need for your school of interest, what can you do to ensure you achieve them? Preparation is key for doing well, but you want tomake sure you're studying efficiently and not wasting time with ineffective study habits or low quality practice questions. Read on for some tips for how to make the most out of your test prep and where to find the best resources for SAT/ACT strategies and practice questions. First, hopefully you have a good amount oftime before your application deadlines, because starting early will give you the time you need to prepare and take your test more than once. Start Early The process of applying to military school starts even earlier than most college applications, as you should fill out a preliminary application in junior year, along with communicating with a Congressperson to obtain his/her official recommendation. Since most students planning on a military academy are aware of this goal relatively early in high school, they should start to think about worktowards this goal by prepping for and taking the SAT/ACT early. Sophomore year is a good time to take your first test, or if you feel that 3 opportunities to test is sufficient, then you might take your first offical SAT/ACT in the fall of junior year. If you start studying for the SAT/ACT by sophomore year, then you can identify your strengths and weaknesses and fill in any gaps in knowledge. After taking a diagnostic practice test, you can do some boot camp-style studying and train yourself to conquer the SAT/ACT. Like any good training session, you should approach it with a plan. Prep With a Plan Start out with basic training. Get to know how long each section of your test is, how many questions you'll answer, and what exactly you need to bring to test day. Read about what's actually tested on the CriticalReading, Writing, and Math sections of the SAT and the Reading, English, Math, and Science sections of the ACT. Once you've gotten to know the structure and content of the test, try taking a diagnostic practice test to see how you are scoring now. This is just a baseline score. With practice and training, you will be able to improve your scores in all sections. After getting your score, go back and examine which practice questions were easy and which tripped you up. Analyze your mistakes and thoroughly read the explanations. If you're having trouble answering all the questions in time, continue to train yourself with timed practice tests. Review and try out time-saving strategies, like how to read the Critical Reading passages on the SAT and Reading passages on the ACT. Break down your test prep into small manageable goals. One week, focus on probability and word problems. The next, drill your understanding of commonly tested grammar rules. Breaking down your studying into small, manageable goals over time will help you learn, accumulate knowledge and skills, and gradually build up your scores. Below is an estimate of how many hours you should put in to see real improvement. Start with basic training. Then get more specialized. Put In the Time Whilethe amount ofstudy input and score improvement output differs for each student, the following is a rough estimate for how many hours you need to study to bring your scores up. SAT Composite Point Improvement 0-50 points - 10 hours 50-100points- 20 hours 100-200 points - 40 hours 200-300 points - 80 hours 300-500 points - 150 hours+ ACTComposite Point Improvement 0-1 points - 10 hours 1-2points- 20 hours 2-4 points - 40 hours 4-6points - 80 hours 6-9points - 150 hours+ The best way to put in the hours to really see improvement is to write down a schedule and stick to it. If you can set aside a specific time for test prep every week and make it part of your routine, then the hours and effort you put in will really add up over time. Just as you want to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses and root out your errors, you also will see the most effective results if you use high quality test prep resources. Use High Quality Resources The truest representation of the SAT/ACT comes from official practice questions. You can download official practice tests, as well as find practice questions on the College Board and ACT websites. Since these are actual questions written by the testmakers, many from previously administered test, they are the best samples of what you will encounter on test day. Unfortunately, there aren't a huge amount of resources out there to practice for the redesigned SAT. Your best bet so far is to make an account with Khan Academy and find the practice questions they are offering in conjunction with College Board. You can also familiarize yourself with the changes and try to focus specifically on those skills when prepping with older practice materials. Apart from official questions, you can use online test prep programs (like PrepScholar), various books, and SAT or ACT Question of the Day. Along with studying, you want to familiarize yourself with and practice the best strategies for enhancing your understanding, saving time, and writing a strong essay in only 25 minutes on the SAT or 40 minutes on the ACT. Invest in yourself and reap the benefits when you get into your military academy of choice. I've mentioned a few times that you should plan to take the SAT/ACT more than once. Here's why. Take the SAT/ACT More Than Once Just as you want to take control of your test preparation, you also want to have a strategy for tackling your testing schedule. The typical schedule is to take the SAT or ACT in the fall of junior year and then again in the spring of senior year. Then if you still see room for improvement, you have all summer to prep and take it again in the fall of senior year. Students almost always improve their scores when they retake the SAT/ACT, and you can use the time in between tests to focus on your weak spots. If you want even more opportunities to test - in case of a fluke testing day or issue with your score report - you could push this schedule back. This will shield you from any issues that may arise, as well as take off some of the pressure since you won't feel like youcould runout of time. You can use those qualities of determination and discipline desired by the military academies to hit your target scores. If you're aiming to attend a military academy, then you must be someone who welcomes challenge. Use those same standards of rigor and motivation you hold yourself to to prep for the SAT/ACT. Not only will you further gain mastery of yourself through discipline and hard work, you'll achieve your purpose of gaining the scores you need for admissioninto one of the competitive military academies of the Five-Pointed Star. Quantitative report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Quantitative report - Essay Example The research will also try to concentrate on where the motives of the tourists and non tourists are different. Also, the focus will be mapping the correlation that has been developed in connection to the satisfaction and the intentions of the attendees. Literature review While discussing the literature review, it needs to be highlighted that the factors of motivation as well as the central focus of the music festivals needs to be taken into consideration. While trying to identify the motivation factors, it is important to focus on the underlying reason for conducting a music festival. Generally, the main reason for conducting a music festival is to promote the entire tourism package for a region. The festivals that are conducted on the lines of music performances are highly unique since they have the ability to attract visitors from a highly diverse span of geographies (Mosley and et.al, 2011). While discussing the motivation factor for the tourists, it needs to be highlighted that t he extrinsic factors of motivation play a very important role. In elaborating about the most important extrinsic factor, the focus needs to be given on the conflict of the masses happening in the work and leisure life of the masses (Robinson and et.al, 2010, p. 138). Basically the long hours of work time is having a conflicting effect on the leisure life of the masses. ... that there are a group of workers who are stuck in a very routine and monotonous kind of a job and are trying to attach to the music events for having a high levels of excitement, thrill and challenge in their leisure times as well as in their life. Another extrinsic kind of a factor that needs to be associated with the issue of motivation is that some attendees attach leisure as an extension to work. A certain group of people who are attached to a highly demanding and exciting kind of a job looks forward to seeking the same levels of excitement and thrill during the leisure time. As a result, the musical concerts hold a high level of value and a source of excitement and thrill to them as well (Robinson and et.al, 2010, p. 138). In discussing about event motivation and tourists, it can be stated that the concept has a high linkage with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The event motivation and participation of tourists in various events are related to the social and psychological n eeds (Heinsohn, n.d.) It also has to be stated that the event motivation at times are largely dependent on the factors like fund raising, generating mass awareness. Also, in some cases, the main motivation of the event is largely associated with the factor of promoting a brand or a performer. Talking in regards to the non-tourists, it can be said that for them, the focus of attending a music event is mainly on relaxing as well as socializing. Research Questions In this case, it can be stated that there can be three research questions. The first research question is to find out what is the demographic profile of the attendees? The second research question is to find whether the motive of the tourists and non-tourist are same or different? The third research question is to concentrate on whether

Conflict Management Scholarship Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Conflict Management - Scholarship Essay Example This paper illustrates that leadership and teamwork have a symbiotic relationship that cannot be overemphasized. Exemplary leadership often promotes teamwork and reduces conflicts within organizations. Conflicts are common at all group levels, be it at workplaces or in learning institutions, because of communication breakdowns. The situation is even severe at present because everybody is aware of his or her rights. The conflict has both positive and negative effects on a team, depending on the way managers and team leaders propose resolution measures. Constructive-cooperative conflict management fosters innovation in work teams. According to Desivilya, Somech, and Lidgoster, intragroup conflict radiates from interpersonal pressures among team members because of real or superficial differences. The quality of internal relationships determines the effectiveness of work teams and the leadership approach taken to handle relationship conflicts (emotionally driven conflicts) and task confl icts. The researchers propose the Dual Concern Model, which highlights the concern for self and concern for the other party as concerns interpersonal conflict-management. In this case, a participative leadership approach encourages cooperation and collaboration, in which team members share a mutual concern for each other. Team effort determines the achievement of tactical objectives and strategic goals of the organization. Victor Sohmen’s study proposes the best practices that would balance leadership and teamwork and result in successful outcomes in the contemporary competitive environment. Organizational leadership is essential to exercise interpersonal influence across a team. This is only possible if such leaders embrace a Five-Dimensional Leadership Competency Model, which encompasses transformational, transactional, organic, contemporary, and ethical dimensions. A leader must learn when to use either of the dimensions and when to combine the dimensions as the situation demands. At times, an accommodative leadership approach, in which a leader surrenders the leadership position to settle a conflict is essential.

Unforgiven Directed By Clint Eastwood Film Studies Essay

Unforgiven Directed By Clint Eastwood Film Studies Essay Unforgiven is a dark and haunting film in what can be considered Clint Eastwoods finest hour. A revisionist western, set in the 1880s that serves as the final culmination of Eastwoods revisionist western trilogy, follows the journey of William Munny (Eastwood), a struggling pig farmer and widower with two young children with a dark past as a violent killer. After two cowboys scar a prostitute a reward is offered by her fellow whores for the death of the two men. Soon Munny is on the hunt and is later joined by Ned (Morgan Freeman) and the young, blind Schofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett). The stage is set for what is perhaps the most gritty, realistic and best of Eastwoods westerns. The skilled acting performances by the cast of brilliant actors along with the directing, that only of man of Eastwoods caliber can provide, make Unforgiven stand out as the finest of Eastwood revisionist westerns (Pale Rider, The Outlaw Josey Wales). We are confronted with characters who are both capable of the kindest, and at the same time vilest, of deeds. The black hat, white hat distinction of the characters of western genres of old are thrown out the window in favor of gritty, violent, morally ambiguous characters that are much more in line with the realities of the human condition. Gene Hickman gives a superb performance as Sheriff Little Bill Dagert, both champion of law and order in his town as well as a violent sadist. William Munny provides the image of a changed man, a man who has redeemed himself. However as the film progresses the faà §ade of a changed man is lifted in a violent manner with the murder of one of the wanted men. The film carefully reveals the true nature of Munny in layers until we are confronted with the true nature of his past Ive killed woman, children and just about anything that moved at some point. He is perhaps the hardest protagonist, to warm to, and Eastwood does a great job at challenging our perspectives on film heroes. The supporting cast do a good job of adding extra weight to the film. There are no meaningless throw away characters that exist only as target practice. They all have a point and Eastwood fits them together in the story like a master watchmaker. Notable performances include Richard Harris as English Bob, a gun fighter and fierce monarchist who worked for the railroad shooting Chinamen. Bob travels with his biographer W.W Beauchamp (Saul Rubineck). Bob along with his biographer act as an amusing comment of the creation and permeation of the western myth. Morgan Freeman lends his heavyweight reputation as Williamss old gunfighter comrade Ned. Freeman does an admirable job as portraying Ned as a man past his prime and serves as an excellent reminder to William that they are not getting younger. James Woolvelt as the Schofield Kid holds up well, his character being both physically blind as well as blind to the realities of killing a man (Munny)You ever killed a man before? (Kid)Hell Ive killed at least 50 guys. He serves as a reminder of how receiving the Mark of Cain can change and destroy a man. Clint Eastwoods goal with Unforgiven was to expose the myth of the western genre; the westerns of John Wayne, Lee Marvin and even himself and to show how the west was really won. There are no fair quick draw stand offs (A man is killed while taking a crap) and killing is often a slow (and for the audience) harrowing experience. Perhaps one of the most amusing and memorable moments comes when Munny shoots the unarmed Pimp, much to Little Bills disgust Hell you just killed an unarmed man! Well he should have armed himself. Eastwood rams home the realities of killing further, a young cowboy dies slowly begging for water, he doesnt fly off his horse like so many a man in Eastwoods older westerns. Perhaps the most memorable quotes on killing come from Eastwoods character himself Its a helluva thing killing a manà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦You take away all hes had and all hes ever gonna have. In exposing the western myth Eastwood excels par excellence. The technical aspect of the film adds to the western experience in a way one would expect of an Eastwood film. The dark moody lighting contrast with the open sweeping landscapes under a brilliant blue sky. The sets and costumes are authentic and familiar to any western film buff which adds an interesting contrasts to the revisionist context of the film. All the technical brilliance comes together to suck the audience into a believable looking film. The lighting itself is well used, especially in the way that it darkens with the darkening of Eastwoods character. Music is kept to a minimal, no spaghetti style pieces blare at us during a stand off, the rain provides a much better musical score to the films finale. For the audience this film forces us to reflect on ourselves and the realities of the darkness of our souls. We are all naturally violent; the film just highlights this fact with a blow from a slug of a .44. Perhaps Eastwood is asking for forgiveness not as a character but as a director. Go ahead punk make my day has been replaced instead with a whimpering, bleeding young man begging for water. If I can think of one gripe about the film it is perhaps that it takes a little too long at making its point. Unforgiven is a brilliant film. It caters to Eastwoods core fans while at the same time attracting the more intelligent and reflective film goer. Those who enjoyed the Good the Bad and the Ugly will enjoy this film as much as the filmgoer who enjoys a serious crafted experience.

Do You Think? Essay -- Creative Writing Thinking Philosophy Essays

Do You Think? Do you think? When was the last time you really sat down and thought about something? Was it a few minutes ago or a few months ago? Our society is so reliant on someone else thinking for them that we have become a co-dependent culture. Did you watch the news today? Was some guy on a killing spree? A serial killer. Did you ever wonder if they felt any mercy for the person as they killed them, each one of them? Or maybe they were merciless and they felt nothing. Or maybe, just maybe, they are a figment of your imagination. Did you wake up this morning or are you still dreaming? Or are you possibly in a computer generated and controlled world that will keep you there until you wake up, like in the movie the Matrix? Are people fond of you or do people hate you? Maybe as you were walking past that person this morning and you said hi and they smiled and waved back, they were just doing it to make you go away. Or maybe they have a crush on you. Maybe, in the middle of that movie you were watching in English class, there was a subliminal message that said "FOOD" and so you thought you were hungry. Is there really an afterlife or do you just die and cease to exist? A Heaven? A Hell? ANd ghosts. Are they there? Are they what give you the shivers when you're waking up in the middle of the night, wondering if someone is lurking around the corner? ALiens? Do they exist or are they just some media generated piece of America's collection of dreams? If they ...

Food and safety Essay

The Food Act 1984 requires all food business operators and food handlers to comply with the Food Safety Standards. Standard 3.2.2 Food Safety Practices and General Requirements sets clear requirements for food businesses to make sure that food does not become unsafe or unsuitable. This Standard sets the requirements for all food handling activities within your business such as; the receipt of food, storage, processing, display, packaging, transporting, disposal and recall of food. The Food Safety Standards are enforceable under the Food Act 1984 and all food premises and food handlers must comply with these Standards. There are other accepted ways of meeting some of these standards, however the business must be able to show that the food will still be safe and suitable. (This may require scientific evidence.) It is important to remember that Standard 3.2.3 Food Premises and Equipment also needs to be complied with. This Standard sets clear requirements for food premises fixtures, fittings and equipment to reduce the risk of food contamination. This is only a guide to the requirements under the Standard. For full details you must check the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Food Safety Standards – Standard 3.2.2. For information on how to meet with the Standards refer to the FSANZ Safe Food Australia, A Guide to the Food Safety Standards on the FSANZ website www.foodstandards.gov.au Key requirements for Standard 3.2.2 Food handling skills and knowledge Notification Food receipt Food processing Food recall Health and hygiene Temperature control & thermometers General requirements Food Handling Skills and Knowledge Food businesses must make sure that all food handlers, and people who supervise food handlers, have the right skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene for the work they do. Refer to the ‘Food Handlers Food Safety Training’ fact sheet. Notification Requires you to notify Council of details about your business. This is covered by your registration. Food Handling Controls Temperature control Potentially hazardous foods include: Raw and cooked meat, poultry and meat products; Dairy products and foods containing dairy products; Seafood; Processed fruits and vegetables; Cooked rice and pasta; Processed foods containing eggs; beans, nuts and other protein-rich foods; foods that contain any of the above foods eg sandwiches and custard and cream filled baked goods. Generally the Standards require that potentially hazardous food is kept under temperature control which means below 5ï‚ °C and above 60ï‚ °C. Businesses need to limit the amount of time that potentially hazardous foods are kept in the ‘danger zone’ ‑ temperatures between 5ï‚ °C and 60ï‚ °C. Food receipt Food businesses must make sure that all food that they receive is safe and suitable. This means that you must make sure that: food is protected from contamination; food can be identified traced back to its supplier; food is at the correct temperature. (below 5ï‚ °C and above 60ï‚ °C or frozen) You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Purchasing and Receipt, found in your Food Safety Program. Food storage During storage you must make sure that the safety and suitability of the food is kept. This means that: Food must be protected from contamination Food must be stored under correct environmental conditions eg lighting and humidity Potentially hazardous food must be stored under correct temperature. (below 5ï‚ °C and above 60ï‚ °C or frozen). You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Storage, found in your Food Safety Program. Food processing Businesses must make sure that when processing food: Only safe and suitable food is processed Food must be protected from contamination There are no organisms present that can cause illness when the food is ready to eat. That potentially hazardous food is keep out of the ‘danger zone’ ‑ temperatures between 5ï‚ °C and 60ï‚ °C as much as possible. Some processing steps have clear requirements for example: Cooking Cooling Thawing Reheating Cooking Food must be cooked correctly and thoroughly to make sure that the food poisoning bacteria is killed and the food is safe to eat. Food that is cooked must be cooked to a temperature of at least 75ï‚ °C. Cooling Any potentially hazardous food that is hot must be cooled to 5ï‚ °C as quickly as possible to ensure that the food is safe. Cool food within two hours from 60ï‚ °C to 21ï‚ °C and within a further four hours from 21ï‚ °C to 5ï‚ °C. Thawing When thawing frozen food make sure that the food does not reach 5ï‚ °C or warmer. The ideal method of thawing food is in the refrigerator. Reheating Reheating of potentially hazardous food must be done quickly. Use a method that rapidly heats the food to 60ï‚ °C or above. You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Preparation, Cooking, Cooling, Thawing, Heating etc, found in your Food Safety Program. Food display Businesses must make sure that when displaying food: Food must be protected from contamination, for example barriers, covering ready to eat foods such as cakes and muffins that are on counters and supervision. That potentially hazardous food is either kept under temperature control or time is used as the control to keep the food safe. As a guide, the 2 hour/4 hour rule is summarised below: If less than 2 hours the food must either be refrigerated or used immediately For longer than 2 hours, but less than 4 hours, must be used immediately For a total of 4 hours or longer, must be thrown out. If using the 2 hour/4 hour rule the business must be able to provide evidence of the times, eg tags with times marked. You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Display, Hot Holding, Cold Holding and Service, found in your Food Safety Program. Food packaging Food businesses must make sure that when packaging food: the packaging material used is safe for food; the packaging material used is not likely to contaminate the food; the food is not contaminated during the packaging process. You can met these requirements by following the section on Packaging found in your Food Safety Program. Food transportation Businesses must make sure that food being transported is: protected from contamination; and that Potentially hazardous food must be transported at the correct temperature. (below 5ï‚ °C and above 60ï‚ °C or frozen) You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Transportation, found in your Food Safety Program. Food disposal/recall Food that is recalled or that may not be safe or suitable, (refer to ‘Your Legal Requirements’ fact sheet), must be labelled and kept separate from the other food on the premises until such time that it can be dealt with correctly. Wholesale suppliers, manufacturers and importers must have a written recall system for the recall of unsafe food. Further information about recalls of food is available on the FSANZ website www.fsanz.gov.au You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Recall, found in your Food Safety Program. Health and Hygiene requirements Food businesses must: inform the food handlers about their health and hygiene responsibilities; make sure that the food handlers do not handle food if they are unwell with an illness such as gastro, or other illnesses that can be passed on through food; provide sufficient handwashing facilities, refer to ‘Food Safety Standards Premises and Equipment’ fact sheet; make sure that food handlers on the premises do not contaminate food. Food Handlers Requirements: Food handlers must do everything they can to make sure that they do not contaminate food. They must wash their hands with soap and running warm water in the hand wash basin provided and then dry them using either a paper towel or air drier. Hand washing before handling food must be done regularly and whenever there might be the risk of contaminating food. They must not behave in any way that could cause contamination of food, for example smoking in food handling areas. Food handlers must inform their supervisor if they are suffering from; diarrhoea, vomiting, a sore throat with fever, fever or jaundice, any infected skin wound or discharges from their ears, nose, or eyes as these conditions could contaminate food. You can meet these requirements by completing the records and following the section(s) on Hygiene/Health of Food Handlers, found in your Food Safety Program. Cleaning, Sanitising and Maintenance Businesses must make sure that the food premises and vehicles are kept clean. Food contact surfaces, ie- chopping boards and preparation benches, must be cleaned and sanitised regularly or in between tasks to make sure that contamination of food does not occur. This also applies to the eating and drinking utensils. Sanitising can be achieved by; using hot water (77ï‚ °C at least), using a food grade sanitiser or diluted bleach. The premises, fittings and equipment must be kept clean and in a state of good repair. Chipped, cracked or broken utensils must not be used. Garbage must not be left to build up and must be removed regularly. Miscellaneous Temperature measuring devices Businesses that handle potentially hazardous food must have a probe thermometer that accurately measures to +/-1ï‚ °C. Some sections of your Food Safety Program will require you to take temperatures and record them. Single use items These include items that should be used only once such as; paper cups, straws, disposable gloves, take away containers etc. The Standard requires the business to make sure that single-use items: do not contaminate food; do not pass on any illness; and are not reused. The main ways to make sure that food is kept safe using single-use items includes: protecting the single use item with packaging or a container; using dispensers that will allow only the customer who will use the single use item to touch it; storing the single use item away from chemicals, in food storage areas; throw away the single-use item if it has been used, damaged, touched or in any way contaminated. Animals and pests Premises and vehicles must be kept free of animals and pests. No animals are allowed in food handling areas apart from live seafood. Assistance animals, such as guide dogs, are the only animals allowed in dining and drinking areas. For further information on pests, follow the section on Pest Control found in your Food Safety Program For further information about Food Safety Standard 3.2.2 Food Safety Practices and General Requirements please contact your Environmental Health Officer (EHO) on 9658 8831/8815.

Feminist Critique Of Feminism And Media Essay - 2134 Words

Feminist Critique of â€Å"Feminism and Media† The main introductory label in â€Å"Feminism and Media† features an incredibly small amount of text compared to the other room labels. It also does not attempt to show a variety of views about feminist art, and those it does express focus solely on personal appearance. The lack of complexity in this label should be thought about critically because, when analysed, all texts reveal an implicit bias, representing the institutional view (Brand, 2006). In this case, the text ignores the full meanings and variety of feminist art. In regard to the displayed art itself, most of it is photography, such as the work of Cindy Sherman and Valie Export. Both of these artists deal with issues of female appearance in the media. Cindy Sherman is famous for her series of photographs depicting herself as various overtly feminine movie stars, but in this role she has rejected this idealized beauty and instead places her body in an exaggerated , masculine, pose and grimaces; her face appearing dirty with her makeup (Tate, Sherman). Valie Export’s work develops upon a similar theme; she places her body in a masculine pose to juxtapose with her overtly feminine makeup and hairdo to critique the expectations of gender and appearance (Tate, Export).
